7 Revealing And Helpful Ways To Deal With Uncertainty About Your Life
If there is one term that
we have learned from 2020, it is the term “uncertainty” after the start of the Pandemic
2020. Before the pandemic came, we all had plans, may have made many of them,
and even the government had plans. We set life, career, and financial goals
that we had to meet before the year ran out. Everything may have been moving
according to our plans until 2020 decided to show us what uncertainty meant,
and it was not in kind words.
For some people, it felt
like they were the main cast of a horror movie, while for others, they felt
like a fly on the wall. What is constant is that none of us planned how this
year was going to play out, and the unexpectedness of everything simply had
some of us wondering if there was any point in planning in the first place.
Interestingly, while some people want the year to be over, others came up with another plan where others failed. They understood that even if we are trying to survive a pandemic, we must strive to guarantee our survival. There will always be uncertainties if we are walking about this earth. These are some ways you can deal with these uncertainties:
Have A Plan
It does not matter how many laws you have heard on spontaneity; curveballs do not feel good when they hit you in the face. There are things that you have no control over, and you are not all-knowing. No one is. It may be other things that you have control over so start working with them. You cannot control the universe. So, responsibly work with things within your control, be creative, and push the limits for breakthroughs.
Get Knowledge
You can never learn all
that you need. There is so much knowledge in the world that if everyone had to
learn a new thing every second, we would still have some ignorant people
walking around and more to learn. Read up on things, get information, ask
people to teach you the things you do not know, and be ready to learn.
Deal With Fear And Inaction
One reason that we are
unable to deal with uncertainties is that our first reaction is fear and
ignorance. Then, we may become weakened. This fear and ignorance can be the
deciding factor for success or failure if anything. So, your first order of
business can be to deal with it. The first important question is, “What are
you afraid of and why?” Create a list of all of these things, learn about them,
and begin to face them one by one. There may be some doubt, but what is life
without a little doubt? There is nothing wrong with doubt. It only becomes
problematic when one fails to find the solutions to overcome it. When the doubt
levels begin to climb, then the faith levels may drop. You may have had filled
out job applications but may be afraid you might get a rejection letter. Or,
you may not know specifically know the best ways to stand out and go about
getting that job you want. So, you do not bother. This is when fear and
ignorance can become paralyzing.
When uncertain things
happen, the first reaction to it is fear or ignorance when any news comes with
uncertainties. You need to be prepared and have an action plan for what happens
next after these uncertainties.
Evaluate Your Progress
How are you doing? How far
have you gotten so far with your goals? Have you gained any invaluable skills? As
far as the changes you have made to your life this year, do you regret
anything? Do you think that you have done well thus far? What can you do
differently? Have you personally grown? What positive changes have you made to
your life? Do they fit into where you are going? You need to know how far you
have come to develop the enthusiasm and vision to keep going. Looking at your
progress report can show you all the errors you have made this year, and you
will then decide how to rectify them.
Always make time to see
how you are doing so far, what growth challenges you have encountered, and how
you have scaled through them. Also, see what you did well and how you can do
better. There is always room for improvement.
Tap Into Your Spirituality Or Talk To Mentors
For some people, reaching out to a higher power is how they deal with things. Sometimes, things can become so overwhelming that we begin to wish we had something or someone to help us with our burdens. When there is uncertainty, the spiritual can be a great way to gain clarity. Some people talk to therapists, life coaches, mentors, and others. Sometimes, you need others with various perspectives, wisdom, and knowledge to help put things into perspective that seem too overwhelming. If you are a religious person, that would be the right time to pray to God and ask for clarity. The same goes for everyone. Take the uncertainty to someone who has more knowledge and insight and let them talk you through it.
Be Kind To Yourself
You do not predict
uncertainties. That is why they are uncertain. What you should not do is beat
yourself up when these uncertainties come in whatever shape, form, and fashion
they deem fit. Deal with things as they come, but do not blame yourself for not
seeing all issues ahead of time. You may be a lot of great things, but you are
not psychic. Practice making the best decisions or life will make them for you
by default and you may not like the outcome. Pay attention to the things around
you and do not bother with matters you cannot see, touch, and feel. Life is
trial and error. It is wise to analyze your trials and tribulations. Doing this
can prevent you from suffering from them in the future or causing others to
suffer. We are doing this thing we call life and may think we are doing it
right until we face the realization that things will not always go as planned.
Discover The Opportunity Or Come To A Point Of Acceptance
In dealing with
uncertainty, it can pose an opportunity for you to seek or create solutions,
find peace, and have moments of clarity. Although it can be challenging to do this
when facing uncertainty in life, self-awareness and self-growth can happen when
you cope with and manage toxic thoughts and actions in healthy ways. View
uncertainty and challenges positively to effectively manage them. It can allow
you to gain strength, insight, and coping skills you never knew you had.
On the contrary, when you
deal with uncertainties, it is human nature to want to start fixing things and
see everything as a problem with a solution. Everything cannot be fixed. Accept
that life is not always going to work out the way you expect it to, and that is
fine. When you cannot find a solution, find peace, happiness, and fulfillment.
We are in a pandemic. Nothing is guaranteed. People may have had their life intact until it happened. Their finances may have been intact one day and depleted the next day. It seems like the universe is trying its hand out on some new buttons. Do not be so hard on yourself.
